News Of The Day: Milan Fashion Week - Greenpeace Action

Fashion industry has long been one of the biggest and most powerful industries in the world. Even though I personally never understood the point of it, I surely see the great potential one such industry has, especially when it comes to important issues, such as environment or child labor

(greenpeace.org)
However, while many big brands already have taken action to “go detox” and produce fine, organic clothing, without any harmful chemicals, some of them are still living in the past. One of such brands is Versace.

Greenpeace has started a campaign during Milan Fashion Week, in order to motivate all of these high-fashion brands to stop living in the past and make difference. Support the cause!

The Revolution of Love

When I saw the name of this article (without reading the whole text), I was so provoked and angry, I had so much to say and I wanted to shout out loud: LOVE IS LOVE!!!

But, after I read it, I couldn’t do anything else but agree on most of the points made by the author. Life is very hard for transgendered people, no matter which country they live in, and no matter how supportive their families and/or friends are. They are still discriminated against in the streets, schools, stores, public bathrooms, and to make their struggle even worse – within the very LGBTQI community, thus being “betrayed” by the people who should be “their own”.

How is that possible? Well, if you’re not a transgendered person, you are almost never going to be in the situation of discussing your private parts, your genes, your hormones; if you have to go into surgery of some kind, the only people wanting to hear about it will be your family and friends; you will never be referred to as “formerly” anything; you will never have to answer when you figured out that you were you, etc. These are just some of the questions many of us ask transgendered people, not really considering that they aren’t some art exhibition set up for our own fun and
education.
Don’t get me wrong – I understand that many ask these questions because they want to learn more and thus become more accepting of the Trans-community. Even I did it before I thought about what I’m doing by it. BUT, if you’re reading this, you have access to the internet, which means you can Google it!

Right to privacy extends to all of us, never forget it!

Now back to the article… Even though I find the text to be very informative, I’m still provoked by the article’s name. While it might still be “revolutionary” to be accepting of transgendered people, I believe it’s time to crush the boundaries of gender when it comes to love. Loving a transgendered person shouldn’t be something “special” or “unusual” anymore.

As long as it’s consensual, love whoever you wish to!
The revolution is love!

Colorblindness

In 1992 En Vogue sang “Be colorblind, don't be so shallow” in their well known song Free Your Mind. Back then, their Message was to stop concentrating on the color of someone's skin and accept them as a human being. An important message to spread across the World.

(decolonizechris.files.wordpress.com)
However, today, colorblindness has become somewhat of a negative term. Why is that? This article I'm sharing here implies that most of the people who state that they don't even notice the color of someone's skin, are in reality showing signs of (concealed) racism.

When my friend shared it on Facebook the other day, it got me thinking. And I must admit that I also felt a bit provoked, because I considered myself to be a bit colorblind, in the En Vogue way. On the other hand, I never said any of the things this article considers to be given for “colorblind” people, except maybe the first example. Because we all are just people, and no one is going to make me change my mind about it.

But, it's important for me to explain what I meant with my case of colorblindness. One shouldn't ignore the fact that not all people on this planet are white, nor should one pretend they all are. Because they are not. Mankind is so full of diversity, and that's one of our most beautiful characteristics. We should treasure it, respect it, celebrate it. We should, under no circumstances, make it something that divides us.

So, don't be colorblind, be color-respectful!

Whenever there is a big protest or a revolution, such as in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and now – Ukraine, there are always different sides of the story, some conspiracy theories and off course – biased media. That means that, without being in the country, you can’t really know which truth is the truth.

However, people dying, whatever the cause, is something we should always react to and try to stop and prevent.

Help Ukraine!

Update 20/2: I came across this video, and it brought tears to my eyes... Not only because of the harsh truth this brave young woman is sharing with the world, but also because I felt a sincere fear that their fight might be in vain. Like so many "revolutions" we saw in the past decade or so... Let's hope their destiny is going to be different...
